Three Indian American scientists Sanjay Vashee, Radha Krishnakumar and Prashanth P. Parmar were part of the 24 member team led by Genomic scientist Craig Venter who spearheaded the creation of the first ever synthetic cell. The team has been succesful in creating an artificial life form using a genetic code written on a computer. This excercise in genetic engineering can create a living bacterial cell by artificially induced man made gentic instructions and transferring this into a bacterium to alter its natural code. Consequently the man made genome can result in the bacterial cell replicating and make new set of proteins.
