In Afghanistan, three foreign soldiers died in two separate incidents today while security has been put on high alert before the traditional New Year celebrations on Monday. NATO-led coalition said in a statement that two soldiers were killed in shooting incident with a security guard in southern Afghanistan.The statement did not state whether the security guard was an Afghan or foreign national, and if the incident took place on a NATO base. NATO officials said the alliance needs to inform the family members of the deceased before giving out details. Another soldier died of IED blast in eastern Afghanistan.Meanwhile, security personnel are on high alert to prevent attacks targeting Monday’s celebration of the Afghan New Year, when President Hamid Karzai is to announce a plan for gradual handover of security from NATO to local forces.Interior Ministry spokesman Zemarai Bashary said there is no doubt that the enemies of the Afghan people are trying to disrupt these happy days. He said that all police and army leaves have been canceled ahead of the holiday and that more than 13,000 security forces would be deployed in capital Kabul adding hospitals and the city's ambulance service had also been placed on alert.
