Three detained in connection with journalist Dey murder case

Mumbai Police detained three people today in connection with the murder of senior Mid Day journalist Jyotirmoy Dey. They are suspected to be the aide of Chotta Shakeel, the right hand man of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said that there are some developments in the Dey murder case probe. He was talking to reporters after a cabinet meeting in Mumbai today. Mr Chavan said, a cabinet sub-committee will be set up soon to prepare a draft bill for the protection of journalists. He said, the government hopes to table the bill in the monsoon session of the State Assembly. Earlier in the day, journalists in Maharashtra took part in relay hunger strikes to denounce the government's refusal to hand over the probe to CBI. 56-year old Jyotirmoy Dey, Special Investigation Editor of Mid Day, was shot dead in broad daylight by four motorbike-borne assailants at Powai in Mumbai on Saturday.
