Three army personnel martyred in encounter at J&K's Kupwara Army camp

In Jammu & Kashmir, three army men including a Captain and Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) were killed in a pre-dawn fidayeen (suicide) attack on an army camp in north Kashmir's Panzgam Chowkibal area in frontier Kupwara district today.<br/><br/>Two unidentified terrorists believed to be foreigners were also killed in the operation. Defence spokesman in Srinagar told AIR that five other injured army men evacuated from the Garrison are under treatment at Army's Base Hospital in Srinagar. At least one among injured is reported to be in a critical condition. <br/><br/>Earlier, the fidayeen (suicide) squad of unidentified terrorists attacked the Artillery headquarters housing 155 Field regiment in Pangzam area at 4.30 a.m. After hurling grenades they opened indiscriminate fire on the troopers killing three army men on spot besides injuring at least five others. No terrorist outfit has claimed responsibility of the attack so far.<br/><br/>One civilian protester was also killed in clashes between security forces and protesters when locals took to streets in Kralpora area, (that is few kilometres away from Army's Garrison) near Panzgam camp who were demanding bodies of two slain militants for performing last rites.<br/><br/>Following the civilian killing, the authorities have imposed restrictions under Sec 144 in Kralpora, Trehgam, Lalpora Sogam and Kupwara areas. Meanwhile, Defence spokesman said that one among three member militant squad sustained injuries during gunfight but managed to escape after injuring an army sentry. Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has paid rich tributes to the slain soldiers and expressed anguish over the death of local civilian in protests.
