Thousands mourners pay homage to departed CPM leader Jyoti Basu

<br/>Senior political leaders cutting across party lines today led thousands of mourners in paying homage to the departed veteran CPM leader, Jyoti Basu. The body of the CPM patriarch reached the State Assembly premises this morning from the funeral home peace Haven where it was kept after his demise. Enrooted to the state assembly premises the body was taken to the party headquarters in Alimuddin street and also to the Writers building where the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary paid their last respects.<br/><br/> The Governor of West Bengal, Mr. Devanand Konwar, the Speaker of West Bengal Assembly, senior Left leaders, Congress President Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Minister Deve Gowda, Telugu Desam Chief Chandrababu Naidu, paid homage to the departed leader. Other prominent leaders include Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukharjee, leader of the opposition Mrs. Sushma Swaraj, BJP Leader L.K. Advani and Governor of Tripura. AIADMK leader K. Malai Chamy, Samajwadi leader Amar Singh and RJD leader Laloo Prasad Yadav.<br/><br/>Vice President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh visited the CPI(M) Headquarters on Monday to pay floral tributes to Jyoti Basu. They also signed the condolence book.<br/><br/> The Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has led a 40 member delegation to pay her last respect to the former Chief Minister of West Bengal. <br/> <br/>The final journey will begin from the assembly premises at 3.00 in the afternoon. A guard of honour will be given to him at Moharkunj- a park near SSKM Hospital to which the body will be handed over for medical research.
