Thousands gather in Beirut for funeral of Ayatollah Fadlallah

Lebanon has held a funeral for the country's most influential Shia Muslim figure Grand Ayatollah Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah in Beirut today. <br/><br/>Thousands of mourners gathered at the late cleric's Hassanein mosque in Beirut for prayer services before the funeral procession got under way.<br/><br/>The Iraqi-born Shia cleric, aged 75, died in a Beirut hospital on Sunday after being admitted in June for internal bleeding. Fadlallah had a wide following, not just in Lebanon but among Shia Muslim communities in the Gulf and Central Asia.
