Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said that the state government is thoroughly investigating the police report that a number of international telephone calls have been made by the inmates of different jails in the state. In reply to an adjournment motion, he informed the state assembly that suspected terrorist link to these calls are being analysed by the high-tech cell of Kerala police. Describing the intelligence report as alarming Kerala Chief Minister informed the assembly that about 3000 STD and ISD calls have been made by convicts from different jails using cell and satellite phones. He said that roots of terrorist activity in Kerala jails cannot be ruled out. Inmates have made calls to the United States and other countries. Further more, it is suspected that some calls have been diverted to Somalia, Pakistan and Afghanistan. The Chief Minister indicated that since the findings are related national security assistance of central investigating agencies will be sought at the appropriate time. Including mobile phone and satellite phone 129 items have been seized from jails of Kerala in recent raids.
