Minister of State for Agriculture Prof. K.V. Thomas today asked the States to prepare perspective plans for the development of fisheries. He urged the states for better use of funds and technology provided by the National Fisheries Development Board. He was addressing the fifth meeting of the Governing Body of the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) in New Delhi. Addressing the meeting Prof. Thomas pointed out that the focus should be given to the development of hatcheries and nurseries for quality seed and the states should become self-sufficient in seed production. He suggested dovetailing the funds from Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna and Rural Infrastructure Development Fund in addition to NFDB funds could be done to increase the investment base in the sector to enhance fish production in the country to reach 10 million tonne by 2012.
