Third phase polls: 12 % voting in J&K, 13 % in Jharkhand till 10 am

Polling is underway for the third phase of five phased Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand.
In the Kashmir Valley, about 12 per cent polling was recorded till 10 am. Voting is being held for 16 assembly segments, spread over three districts of Baramulla, Budgam and Pulwama in the third phase of elections.

Polling, which started on a dull note this morning, has gained momentum. However, a blast took place outside a polling booth at Khahi Pura in Tangmarg area of Gulmarg assembly segment of Baramulla district. No one was injured. The polling, which stopped for a couple of minutes in the polling booth, resumed again.

AIR Correspondent reports that Uri, which was rocked by a fidayeen attack on an Army camp, is seeing people coming out in large numbers to exercise their franchise. In Jharkhand, nearly 13 percent voting was recorded till 9 am in 17 assembly segments going to polls in the third phase of election.

Quoting poll officials, PTI reports Koderma recorded the maximum 16.90 per cent voting in the first two hours while Barkagaon constituency witnessed the minimum at 7.60 per cent. The officials said some faulty Electronic Voting Machines or EVMs were immediately replaced on receiving complaints from a few polling booths. 289 candidates including former Speaker C.P. Singh and former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi are in the fray.
