There should be zero tolerance towards terrorism in any form says PM; Calls for urgent UNSC, IMF reforms

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India firmly believes that terrorism, in any shape or form, is against humanity and there should be zero tolerance towards it.

While participating in the opening session of 6th BRICS Summit that started in the eastern coastal city Fortaleza in Brazil yesterday, the Prime Minister said that BRICS must translate its political resolve into a concrete and coordinated Plan of Action to fight against terrorism.

He stressed for collective pressure on States to deny sanctuaries and support to terrorists.

Mr. Modi stressed that BRICS countries, should take the lead in preserving cyber security since cyber space is a source of great opportunity for all.
He said that an open, rule-based, international trading regime is critical for global economic growth and it must address aspirations of the developing world.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, echoing the idea of inclusive growth and sustainable development, said that India will invest heavily in infrastructure, affordable housing, healthcare, education and clean energy. He also said that India will champion clean and frugal resource use to maintain sustainability of the development process, without constraining the growth.

Our correspondent covering the Prime Minister's visit reports that while referring to the situation in West Asia, Prime Minister said that it poses a grave threat to regional, and global peace and security. India is particularly concerned about the issue because this affects the lives of seven million Indian citizens, living in the Gulf region.

Mr. Modi said institutions like the UN Security Council and International Monetary Fund need urgent reform and they must become more representative and reflect ground realities. The Prime Minister said that BRICS should be driven by people-to-people contact. He said that member countries should consider opening massive open online courses, BRICS language schools, University and Young Students Forum.

Referring to Afghanistan, the Prime Minister said that the world must unite to support them in building a peaceful, stable, democratic and prosperous country. He also called upon BRICS members to explore how to end the conflict in Iraq.

He said that India is also concerned, at the recent outbreak of violence between Israel and Palestine and also supports, ongoing efforts to stabilize the situation in many African countries facing challenges of security and development.
