There should be limit on GST, says Congress

The Congress has said that there should be a limit on the Goods and Service Tax which could be 15 or 18 per cent. Briefing media in New Delhi this evening, party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said even the Chief Economic Advisor has considered additional one per cent tax under GST regime as retrograde and it is also against the concept of Make in India. Mr Singhvi said, his party wants that GST should come but the government was introducing it in the Rajya Sabha without any discussion in the Business Advisory Committee.

The spokesperson said it was because of Congress opposition that now the States will be compensated 100 per cent loss arising from the implementation of the GST by the Centre. Mr Singhvi said, factory output has sharply declined to 2.7 per cent this year as against 5.6 per cent last year. He said, growth has dipped under the present government whether it is capital goods or consumer goods and this is the reality of Make in India.

He alleged that the government is trying to hide their economic failure by creating confusion over GST. On the issue of resignations of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Chief Minister of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, Mr Singhvi said, there is no change in party's stand.
