Dr M Rajeevan, Secretary Ministry of Earth Sciences today said, there is mounting evidence for the increase in Heat Waves due to Global Warming. He was speaking after inaugurating National workshop on Heat Waves Forecast for State Level Preparedness in New Delhi today. <br/><br/>Dr Rajeevan said, in the past decade both frequency and Intensity of heat waves in India has increased. He further added the deleterious effect of heat waves on public health is a major concern and the climate forecasts and awareness among the people is the need of the hour.<br/><br/>The national workshop was organized by Indian Meteorology Society and India Meteorology department sponsored by Ministry of Earth Sciences, Department of Science and Technology and Climate and Development Knowledge Network(CDKN).<br/>Our correspondent reports the national workshop is the first of its kind seminar focusing on heat waves involving Directors of state Met departments from all over the country and Multiple stakeholders. The two day workshop is supposed to come up with recommendations and guide lines for state governments to work in tandem in devising Climate Service Forecasts for the public.
