There is global need for good teachers & India has potential to export: PM on Teachers' Day

The Prime Minister has said that there is a global need for good teachers and India has the potential to export to fulfill that need .

Addressing the children on the occasion of Teachers' day at a function in New Delhi today, Mr Narendra Modi said there should be introspection why good students are not opting teaching as a profession.

Saying that teachers are the role models for students, he said the society need to realize the importance of teachers.

The Prime Minister stressed the need for promotion of girls' education. He stressed the need for separate toilets for girls in schools across the country and said lack of toilets in schools is main reason for their dropout.

He said that there is a need to make cleanliness a national movement.
Replying to a question from a student, Mr Modi said digital India is his dream and modern technology should reach all people in the country in all languages.
During the 100-minute programme, which was linked with schools nationwide, he advised the children to make reading a habit and read biographies as it will take them close to history .

The students belonged to different places including Delhi, Dantewada, Tinsukia, Leh, Bhuj, Imphal, Port Blair and Thiruvananthapuram.

Speaking on the occasion, Human Resources Development Minister Smriti Irani said, a teacher acts as a bridge between past and future. She said teachers not only teach but also learn in the journey of teaching.

Over one thousand students from different schools in the national capital attended the function. The Prime Minister's address was beamed live to over 18 lakh government and private schools in the country through Doordarshan, AIR and education channels.
