The government is committed to provide housing to all by 2022. Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Minister, M. Venkaiah Naidu said that to provide houses to 3 crore homeless people of the country is a serious challenge. Replying to supplementaries during question hour in the Lok Sbabha, today, he said the government will also develop children and disabled friendly cities. The Minister said that the government is also contemplating a new scheme of Integrated Housing for Economically Poor people.

On the issue of creation of slum areas near urban population, the Minister who is also holding the charge of Urban Development said the Government is studying Maharashtra model to provide houses to slum dwellers. He said Slum Rehabilitation and Development plan is in the pipeline and government is also trying to involve private sector in providing free houses to slum dwellers.
