The rescue operation in the building collapse in Mumbai has been finally concluded after nearly 42 hours. The seven-storey illegal structure collapsed in Shil Phata area between Mumbra and Dombivli townships on Thursday evening. The death toll in the incident has risen to 72 including children and women. 54 others are injured.
It took nearly 42 hours for the rescue team to complete the rescue operation at the collapse site at Shil Phata area. The rescue team pulled 126 people trapped under the debris of which 72 died and 36 injured are being treated at various hospitals. The state government has announced that the incident would be thoroughly probed by the additional chief secretary.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Mr Prithviraj Chavan stated that they are deliberating on formation of a special team for prevention of illegal constructions. He also stated that if forest department and police officials are found to be involved in the matter then stern action will be taken against them.
