Thailand’s Red Shirt movement has proposed truce: Thai Govt.

An official of the Thai Government says, the leader of the opposition Red Shirt movement has proposed a truce with the Government to end five days of deadly street battles in Bangkok between security forces and demonstrators. The Thai Government negotiator, Korbsak Sabhavasu, said, the Red Shirt representative, Nattawut Saikuwa called on him on his cell phone yesterday to make the truce offer. Korbsak said, he told the Red Shirt leader that Thai troops will not fire any more bullets if the demonstrators end raging street battles and return to their main camp in central Bangkok. It was the first direct talks between the two sides since the fighting started Thursday, but Korbsak said it was unlikely to achieve much as the two sides still remained far apart.
