Thai state of emergency debated in cabinet

The Thai cabinet is due to consider extending the state of emergency currently in force in the capital, Bangkok and more than twenty provinces. Imposed after months of violent anti-government protests earlier this year, the decree expires tomorrow. Two months of mass anti-government protests by the Red Shirt movement, pushing for immediate elections, sparked outbreaks of violence that left 90 people dead, mostly civilians, and nearly 1,900 injured.
