The Thai cabinet is due to consider extending the state of emergency currently in force in the capital, Bangkok and more than twenty provinces. Imposed after months of violent anti-government protests earlier this year, the decree expires tomorrow. Two months of mass anti-government protests by the Red Shirt movement, pushing for immediate elections, sparked outbreaks of violence that left 90 people dead, mostly civilians, and nearly 1,900 injured.
