Thai PM wins ‘no confidence’ vote

Thailand's Prime Ninister Abhisit Vejjajiva has convincingly won a no-confidence vote tabled in Parliament in the wake of recent deadly street protests. The vote came after a two-day censure debate among the MPs, which focused on the tough measures taken by the government against the red-shirts protest, which was called off by their leaders on May 19 after 88 died and nearly 2,000 injured during clashes. House Speaker Chai Chidchobthe said, the censure motion submitted by the opposition was rejected by 246 votes to 186. Allies of Abhisit Vejjajiva backed the Prime Minister over the issue. The five other cabinet members – Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thuagsuban, Interior Minister Chavarat Charnvirakul, Transport Minister Sophon Zarum, Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij and Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya – also survived the vote.<br/>
