Thai authorities meet to lift emergency in more provinces

Thai authorities will meet on Tuesday to consider lifting a state of emergency in more provinces. The secretary-general of National Security Council Tawin Pleansri, told reporters in Bangkok that however in the capital and surrounding areas the state of emergency will continue for a while.The emergency decree remains in place in 10 out of Thailand's 76 provinces. It bans public gatherings of more than five people and gives security forces the right to detain suspects for 30 days without charge. The emergency was introduced in April this year to arrest hundreds of people linked to the Red Shirt opposition protest movement and to silence anti-government media.
