Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawarchand Gehlot, today inaugurated the Eastern Regional Conference on issues relating to Empowerment of Divyangjan. Addressing a function in New Delhi, Mr Gehlot said, new Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 has expanded the horizon of the rights of Divyang. <br/><br/>He said, it has enhanced responsibilities on the States to ensure that the such persons enjoy their rights equally with others. He said the government is in the process of implementing a project under which Unique ID card will be issued to to each Divyang which will help create a national database for such persons. <br/><br/>On the occasion, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Krishan Pal Gurjar, the government has initiated many new schemes for the welfare of Divyangjan. Representatives from the States of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Sikkim, Tripura, West Bengal participated in the Conference.
