Textiles exhibition Tex-Trends kicks start in New Delhi

Commerce, Industry and Textiles Minister Anand Sharma today stressed the need to promote cluster approach for development of the textiles sector.

He said the approach will help empower the weavers by imparting them the necessary training to adapt to the new technology.

Mr Sharma was speaking at the inaugural function of the textiles exhibition, Tex-Trends 2012 in New Delhi today.

Mr Sharma reiterated the government's commitment to provide access to markets and credit to the weavers at affordable rates to sustain their livelihood.

The Minister noted that the Textile and handloom sector is the second largest employer after the agricultural sector.

AIR correspondent reports that more than 600 exhibitors are displaying their products ranging from garments, fabrics, accessories, home furnishing, jewellery and jute products at the three day exhibition.
