Terrorist plan to assassinate Zardari uncovered

A media report claimed that six suspects planning to assassinate Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif were arrested. During interrogation, the suspects told investigators that they were planning to attack Zardari at the Governor House during his upcoming visit to Lahore.

An unnamed security official quoted by the 'Daily Times' newspaper said that they were arrested for their alleged links to several major terror attacks in Pakistan.

The suspects also disclosed that they had planned to either attack the President at the Governor House or to target the presidential motorcade in the same way that terrorists attacked the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore last year.

Police found a detailed map of the Governor House in Lahore among documents seized from the suspects.
