Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar today called for action against terrorism saying that terrorism remains the most pervasive and serious challenge to global security. Speaking at the 19th Asian Security Conference in Delhi, Mr Parrikar said terrorism is undoubtedly the single biggest threat to international peace and security. Saying that Afghanistan and India have been victims of proxy war for decades now, he stressed that developing coordinated global response is important.<br/><br/>Speaking on the occasion, former Pakistan NSA Mahmud Ali Durrani said 26/11 Mumbai attacks carried out by a terror group based in Pakistan is a classic trans-border terrorist event. He emphasised that nations must agree on a common denominator to jointly fight terrorism.<br/>In his address, Aghan National Security Adviser Mohammad Hanif Atmar said despite international investment in counter terrorism, terrorism is growing its capabilities and presence in the AfPak region. He said India and Afghanistan share the region with Pakistan, which has the highest concentration of terrorists anywhere. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports Asian Security Conference has emerged as an important platform for debating issues relating to Asian security. The theme of the conference this year is "Combating Terrorism: Evolving an Asian Response".
