Terrorism emanating from Pak high on agenda in Obama-Manmohan talks

Terrorism emanating from Pakistan is expected to be high on agenda of the upcoming talks between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Barack Obama in Washington next week. After the talks, the two sides are likely to sign an MoU on counter-terrorism and few other pacts. Briefing the media on the visit of Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to Washington beginning on Friday, Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao said New Delhi and Washington are also firmly committed to implementing the Civil Nuclear Deal by resolving the pending issues. She said the issues like Liability legislation, licensing of US firms and re-processing of spent fuel for utilisation by India will be sorted out step by step.<br/>Dr Singh, who will be the first foreign leader to be hosted as State Guest by 10-month-old Obama Administration, will be in Washington for four days during which he will address Senate Foreign Relations Committee and business leaders of the two countries besides receiving some top US officials. Mrs Rao said, both the leaders will review the entire gamut of bilateral relations and discuss the security situation in the region besides global issues like climate change and non-proliferation. The two countries are also likely to sign MoUs in renewable energy, IPR in agriculture and announce Singh-Obama knowledge initiative.<br/>Dr Singh and Obama will also discuss global issues like UN reforms in the backdrop of the recent statement by the world body that the new permanent members of the expanded council should be chosen by name rather than regions. In the second leg of the tour, Prime Minister will travel to Port of Spain, the capital of Trinidad and Tobago, for CHOGM, which is expected to discuss the pressing global issues like climate change and terrorism.<br/>
