Terror outfits getting money from outside: Chidambaram

The Home Minister today informed the Rajya Sabha that, where there is evidence that terror outfits are getting money from outside the country, the government is taking effective action to stop it. Replying to supplementaries Mr. P. Chidambaram dismissed estimates given by some international audit organisations regarding the flow of money in the Indian economy. Mr. Chidambaram said that Foreign Exchange Regulation Act is being strictly enforced and there is a plan to amend it to meet the present day needs. The Minister informed the House that 34 terrorist organisations have been banned. He said apart from this the ban applies also to outfits listed in the schedule to the UN prevention and suppression of terrorism order. He said that the central intelligence and security agencies work in close coordination with states together on information about the flow of funds to these outfits. The minister said, the Union Home and Finance Ministries also works in tandem to combat terror funding. Mr. Chidambaram also gave the details of the laws in place to address this issue.
