In Odisha, tension prevails in the proposed Posco steel project area near Paradip in Jagatsinghpur following lathicharge by police on local villagers at Matha Sahi of Nuagaon gram panchayat who were protesting cutting of trees for the project. At least six persons have been injured in the lathicharge. The district administration, however, has been denying any such police action. Meanwhile, pro-Posco body, Posco Joint Action Committee has taken serious note of the police action and a meeting is going on at Nolia Sahi on the lathicharge by the police. The local villagers have been demanding meeting of some of their crucial demands before starting of Posco project work by the government. Anti-Posco body, Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti supporters have been continuing their agitation at Gobindpur demanding shifting of Posco project from the area.
