In Odisha, tension prevailed in the proposed Posco steel project site near Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district today.20 platoons of armed police have been deployed in the area to resist the farmers protesting against the land acquisition by the State Government. The forces have already reached Dhinkia gram panchayat. Hundreds of local villagers including children and women are on guard at the village outskirts.They have decided not to allow the land acquisition officials to enter Dhinkia, Patna and Gobindpur area and are ready for a face-off with the security personnel. Posco-project, on the backburner since its inception, got a fresh lease of life when Union Minister for Environment and Forests, Jairam Ramesh, gave the go-ahead for the proposed 52,000 crore rupees steel-plant in May this year. However, a large number of local villagers including farmers continued agitation against land acquisition for the project. Orissa government's decision to send in forces to tackle the agitation has expectedly been slammed by Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti, an anti-Posco body.
