The situation in Kashmir valley continues to be tense and indefinite curfew is on in Srinagar and all major towns across the valley for 4th consecutive day. Despite curfew there were clash and protests at many places yesterday and police had to resort to firing at several places as the protestors indulges in stone pelting and damaging government properties. In a late evening incident at Kulgam police opened fire on the protestors and one youth was killed and 3 others were injured. Earlier, in the day in similar incident five persons were killed one each in Kakapura, Sangam, Chawalgam, Bigbehara and Karalpura Kupwara. Meanwhile, as violence further escalated in Kashmir Valley, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chaired a meeting of the Unified Command in Srinagar and reviewed the measures in place to tackle the situation. Quoting official sources PTI reports that Mr Omar chaired the meeting, after returning from New Delhi where he had called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Home Minister P Chidambaram. The meeting was attended by the top brass of army,security forces, state police, IB and civil administration. The Chief Minister took stock of prevailing law and order situation in the valley and also reviewed the measures in place to handle the situation and restore normalcy.
