Tension continues in Rayalaseema & Coastal Andhra regions against bifurcation of state

The situation in Vizianagaram was brought under control but remained tense even as shoot at sight orders issued. Rapid Action Forces were deployed and marched through the main streets.DIG Vikram Singh Mann said no fresh violence reported in the post-noon on Sunday. Incidents of violence have come in from several places in seemandhra regions on the third day of the 72-hour long bandh in protest against the bifurcation of the state.

Police resorted to lathicharge and lobbed teargas shells at several places to disburse agitators.
Curfew was imposed in the headquarters of the north coastal district of Andhra Pradesh last evening after pro-united Andhra demonstrations turned violent injuring several police personnel and destroying public and private properties including those of PCC president Satyanarayana.AIR Hydrabad correspondent reports that normal life remained paralyzed in Seemandhra regions as the United Andhra agitation got intensified with rail and electricity services crippled in most parts of Rayalaseema and Caostal Andhra regions with thousands of employees of power generation units joined the strike protesting bifurcation.
The power generation in three major units in Seemandhra regions was stopped due to which hundreds of villages plunged into darkness.

The South Central Railways had to face the brunt of power shut down and several passenger trains were cancelled. According to railway officials, diesel locomotives were used to run some long distance and express trains passing through Vijayawada division as Chennai-Howrah rout is completely electrified. A number of inter-city Metro trains and good trains were cancelled.Meanwhile, Chief Minister Kiran kumar Reddy has appealed to electricity employees to call off their stir on humanitarian grounds as medical, drinking water, irrigation and rail services are being affected in the state. At a high level review meeting, he asked the chief secretary P K Mohanty and DGP Prasada Rao to take stringent action against anti-social aliments indulged in violence.

AIR correspondent reports, power supply and rail services were crippled on Sunday in Rayalaseema and Coastal andhra regions with employees of electricity department joining the ongoing NGOs strike.Protesting the decision of the Congress party and the Union Cabinet to bifurcate the state the non-gazetted officers of the state government are striking work for the past two months.

Dozens of towns and Thousands of villages in the two regions plunged into darkness today as the power generation at all major units was stopped affecting all important services like medical, supply of drinking and irrigation water and rail services.Many passenger and express trains were cancelled in Vijayawada division of the South Central Railways, which is a major junction on the fully electrified grand trunk rout between Chennai and Howrah.

Railway officials could manage to send the express and long distance trains which pass through the division with the help of Diesel locos and they are not sure how long they can manage through such alternatives.
Normal people had to face severe hardships as there was no public transport system available.

The state owned road transport corporation services were already affected for the past two months.
After business, education and transport shutdown, the seemandhra regions are now facing power shutdown intensifying the people’s agitation for their demand for united Andhra Pradesh.
