Tens of thousands of Italians gathered in Rome against PM Berlusconi

Tens of thousands of Italians gathered in Rome yesterday to press their demand that Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi step down. The main opposition Democratic Party organized the rallies ahead of a no-confidence vote in parliament Tuesday. The leader of the center-left party, told the roaring crowd that it is time for Mr. Berlusconi ‘to go home.’ The 74-year-old media billionaire has been fighting off a series of scandals, including his contact with a teenage Moroccan nightclub dancer. Earlier this week, Italian prosecutors opened an investigation into allegations by the opposition that Mr. Berlusconi's camp attempted to buy votes in parliament ahead of the confidence vote. The prime minister dismisses the charges. Mr. Berlusconi's tenure ends in 2013.
