In Afghanistan, ten Afghan soldiers were killed in a Taliban ambush in southern province of Helmand while more than 100 militants were killed and wounded elsewhere in the country. An army commander said the militants attacked an army patrol in the Gerishk district of Helmand province, sparking a battle that lasted for an hour on Monday. He said there were also casualties among the militants but could not give any figures. The Defence Ministry confirmed that 10 of its soldiers were killed in the country but did not release details.
