Temperatures to fall across northern region

Temperatures continued to fall across the northern region as rain lashed the plains, including the states of Punjab and Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Rain in most parts of Punjab and Haryana led to a dip in temperature in the region. Patiala was the coldest place in the two states with a low of 9.3 deg C, which was one notch below normal. In Himachal Pradesh ,strong velocity winds accompanied by rain and sleet continued to lashthe state. Shimla and its surrounding areas remained engulfed by thick fog, hampering vehicular traffic. Meanwhile, the Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE) has issued a 'medium danger avalanche warning' for people staying in snowbound areas above 2,500 metres in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
