Temperatures fall marginally at some places, still death toll reaches 54

A person today died of the heat in Rajasthan, taking the death toll this summer across the country to 54, even as temperatures fell marginally at some places in Haryana and in the national capital owing to overcast skies and light showers. <br/><br/>One man died of the heat in the walled city market of Jaipur, where the mercury touched 42 degrees. In Haryana, overcast skies saw the mercury dip at a few places. In Patiala of Punjab, the daytime temperature dropped by a couple of marks to settle at 40.2 degrees. The city was the hottest in the state yesterday at 43.5 degrees.<br/><br/>In the national capital, light showers brought the mercury down by a degree. The maximum temperature was recorded at 42.1 degrees, down from yesterday's 43 degrees. The night-time temperature came down to 29.5 degrees from 30.6 degrees. <br/><br/>In Uttar Pradesh, sizzling temperatures led many to stay indoors as capital Lucknow experienced a maximum of 44 degrees and authorities announced early closure of schools. In the eastern region, temperatures stayed high in Orissa and Jharkhand.
