Telengana Commiittee to hold its first meeting on Saturday

The high-level committee headed by Justice (retd) B N Srikrishna on Telangana will hold its first meeting in New Delhi tomorrow. The meeting comes a day after the government came out with terms of references for the the five member committee which will submit its report by the 31st of December.<br/><br/>The terms of reference set today for the five-member committee headed by Justice Sri Krishna constituted earlier in this month by the Union Home ministry have evoked mixed reactions among political parties in Andhra Pradesh. PCC president D Srinivas has urged all political parties and sections in the state to cooperate with the centre to enable the Sri Krishna Committee to function in an impartial way and complete its task before time. on the other hand, the congress leaders from Telangana region who met in Hyderabad this afternoon said they would take a collective decision about their future strategy after attending the all party Telangana JAC meeting convened tomorrow.<br/><br/>On the other hand, Rejecting the terms of reference out rightly, Leaders from Telangana Rastra Samithi have decided to resign from Lok Sabha and Assembly protesting against the terms of reference set for the Sri Krishna Committee. TRS President K Chandrasekhara Rao has said the two Lok Sabha members including himself, along with all the 10 MLAs and one MLC would submit resignations tomorrow in a prescribed form to the Lok Sabha speaker and Assembly speaker. Stating that the people of Telangana have been deceived once again, the TRS president has said there was no other option left for them except agitating for a separate state Telangana.<br/><br/>The TDP leaders from both Telangana and rest of the state have expressed displeasure over the terms of reference for different reasons. While leaders from Telangana region said the centre has completely changed the consultation process, the party leaders from coastal and Rayalaseema Regions said the absence of consensus in the terms of reference is causing concern.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent M.S. Lakshmi reports from Hyderabad that the terms of reference set today for the Sri Krishna committee have not only evoked mixed reactions but also prompted hectic parleys among political parties in Andhra Pradesh. Welcoming the terms of reference, the ruling Congress party has termed them as reasonably good and convincing. On the other hand, rejecting the terms of reference out rightly, leaders of the Telangana Rastara Samithi have said they are not in line with the aspirations of Telangana people and are not conducive for formation of Telangana state.<br/><br/>Leaders from the opposition Telugu Desam party also expressed displeasure over the terms of reference. While leaders from Telangana region said the centre has changed the consultation process, the TDP members from Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra said absence of consensus has been causing concern. While the BJP said the Centre has gone back from its word, the CPI expressed unhappiness over the terms of reference. The all party Telangana Joint Action Committee convenor Prof. <br/><br/>Kodandaram said the terms of reference are not in tune with the December 9th statement by the Government. He has convened a JAC meeting tomorrow to discuss future course of action. Meanwhile, the student Joint Action Committee of Osmania University has called for Telangana bandh tomorrow for which several political parties have extended support. On the other hand, the police commissioner of Hyderabad has tightened security arrangement at all important places in and around the twin cities.
