Telecommunication not a source of revenue but tool for empowerment of community: Sibal

The Government has said that all the companies which have been given licences to work for the Telecom Department but do not meet the required eligibility criteria are being issued show cause notices by the end of this week. Inaugurating the international exhibition, 'Telecom 2010', the Telecom Minister, Mr. Kapil Sibal said that the UPA Government is firm on transparency in every business transaction. He said that telecommunication should not be viewed as a source of revenue but as a tool for the empowerment of the community. He said that access to knowledge is the fundamental right of every citizen of the country. Mr. Sibal said, the theme of the exhibition 'Broadband For All', reflects the government's intention to make every citizen an informed one. The fifth edition of three day event aims at promoting the opportunities in the Telecom sector for boosting country’s economic growth and attracting further FDI. It is being attended by over 275 companies from over 37 countries. AIR Correspondent reports, the event will focus on the latest technologies, bringing together professionals from leading organizations looking for solutions for their current business activities.
