Leading experts from the telecom and the ICT sector have underlined the need to have global standards or benchmarks keeping in mind the rapid strides in technology and innovation.The applications of the Information and Communications technology especially in health care, utilities, and transport have been identified for expansion and usage. The key issues came up for discussion at the Global Standardization Symposium at the World Trade Center in Dubai. The experts also took stock of issues related to interoperability of standards, how it can help innovation, developing markets and how standards affect and can benefit them, futures challenges ,e-health, smart grid, intelligent transportation systems, and role of communication networks in disaster management. Representatives from the Government, public and private sector, global telecom and IT majors attended the conference organized under the aegies of International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the UN's specialized agency for ICTs.
