In Andhra Pradesh, the employees of the state owned Road Transport Corporation have called off their strike. This was announced by the RTC Joint Action Committee leaders last night in Hyderabad after holding talks with transport Minister B Satyanarayana. The RTC employees were on strike for the last 27 days as part of the ongoing general strike in Telangana demanding a for statehood. The Telangana JAC leaders said, keeping in view the inconvenience causing to people, the RTS services were exempted from the General Strike which entered 34th day today. Following this, the RTC buses will begin operating fully.
The State Government has intensified talks with its employees in order to convince them to call off the stir. Talks are also continuing with workers of Singareni collieries where the coal production was badly hit in 3 districts of the region due to the general strike.
Meanwhile, the 72-hour long Rail Roko agitation is underway more or less peacefully in Telangana region. 273 people including 6 Lok Sabha members, were arrested and 2850 persons were taken into preventive custody on the first day of the Rail Roko agitation yesterday. Karimnagar Lok Sabha member Ponnam Prabhakar was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days by a magistrate in Karimnagar. The Railway authorities operated 5 express and 7 passenger trains yesterday and making efforts to run more trains today.
