Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand is all set to become the first Himalayan site, where the state government has given its nod to set up a wind energy farm on a hill top with the help of Central Government. According to State Renewable Energy Minister, Rajendra Bhandari a notification to this effect has already been issued for producing 2.4 megawatt of wind power. Giving details about the project he told AIR on Sunday that the Chennai-based Centre for Wind Energy Technology (CWET) had carried out the ground work and other surveys regarding the potential of wind energy in Bachhelikhal area of Tehri district. According to Mr. Bhandari the project funded by centre aims to exploit wind energy in the state.
