Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation Secretary Parameswaran Iyer said there is need to push water to the centre stage of the governance and reforms in the country. Addressing the 3rd edition of India Industry Water Conclave in New Delhi today, Mr Iyer said, urban wastewater is a big opportunity for industry and government to come together. He said behavioral change is key to efficient water management. He also said technology can help in managing groundwater and its efficient use. <br/>'<br/>Speaking on the occasion, Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources Dr Amarjit Singh said, there are immense opportunities for reforms in water sector. He said awareness and involvement of people is necessary as water resources are shrinking. He said the government is targeting to irrigate more land so that the dependency of small and marginal farmers on rainwaters can be minimized. Dr Singh said, country's 68 million hectares area have already irrigated and the government has targeted to reach 80 million hectares. He said the government has allocated over 77 thousand crore rupees for irrigation of 8 million hectares of land.
