Technical snag forces Air India plane with 122 on board to land in Pakistan

An Air India airbus 319 flying from Abu Dhabi to Delhi with 122 passengers on board, made a precautionary landing at Pakistan's Nawabshah airport this morning. All 122 passengers and six members of cabin crew are safe. Air India spokesperson Praveen told AIR that all the passengers are likely to arrive at IGI Airport by 4:30 pm today in a special aircraft, which has already been sent to Nawabshah airport with technical team.

Earlier, in the wee hour today, the captain of Air India airbus-319 contacted Pakistani authorities and sought permission for landing after detecting the problem with the hydraulic system. The plane landed at Nawabshah airport in southern Sindh province at 3.37 am.

Meanwhile, Ministry of External Affairs is closely monitoring the situation. Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai is in costant touch with the Indian High Commissioner in Pakistan, Sharat Sabharwal, who is in contact with the pilot.
