The Election Commission has decided to refer to a Technical Expert Committee for examining the proposal of Voter Verifiable Paper Trail in Electronic Voting Machines – EVMs through a process of wide consultation. Earlier this week at a meeting of national and state party leaders convened by the Commission several political parties suggested that the feasibility of incorporating a ‘Voter Verifiable Paper Trail’ in the EVMs should be explored to further enhance voters’ satisfaction. The meeting of national and state parties had been called to discuss issues related to money power in elections ,Paid News in connection with Elections , Criminalization of Politics and the EVMs. The Commission apprised political parties about the order for strict enforcement of expenditure monitoring measures in elections, and appealed to them to exercise self regulation and restraint.
