Team India leaves for SA to play ICC championship Trophy

High on confidence after their the tri-nation Compaq Cup triumph in Sri Lanka, the Indian cricket team on Friday left Mumbai to participate in the ICC Champions Trophy to be held in South Africa from Tuesday. The eight-nation tournament is scheduled to take place from the 22nd of this month to 5th October. India were the joint winners along with hosts Sri Lanka in ICC Champions Trophy held in 2002. The team will play a warm-up match against New Zealand on Sunday. Placed in Group A along with Australia, Pakistan and the West Indies, India will open their league engagements on the 26th of this month against Pakistan. Caption M S Dhoni expressed concern over team India's performance in bowling and fielding department and said a lot of improvement is needed in the two areas during the coming tournament. Regarding the return of dashing opner Gautam Gambhir, he said it is a good news for the team because he will have to take the responsibility at the top of the order. However Dhoni expressed confidence of winning the tournament.
