In Punjab, in view of the police lathicharge and subsequent detention of protesting Elementary school teachers in some parts of the state, the Teachers Union Punjab has decided to close all the 5752 Zila Parishad schools indefinitely till their demands are met. The teachers including women teachers were lathicharged, yesterday, to stop them from going to Amritsar for staging a dharna in front of the Rural Development and Panchayat Minister, Ranjit Singh Brahampura in support of their demands to make them permanent employees of State Education Department rather than keep them as employees of Zila Parishads.
