Teacher's Day is being celebrated throughout the country today. The day is celebrated as a tribute to the valuable contribution made by teachers to the society by imparting knowledge and shaping the career of students. In India, Teacher's Day is celebrated on the 5th of September every year as it is the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, a timeless teacher and former President of India.
Addressing the award winning teachers at a function in New Delhi yesterday, Prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh said, the empowerment of teachers would have to be the key component of the educational reform process. He said, through teachers the nation aspires to build in the children, a commitment to the values of democracy, equality, social justice, freedom, secularism and respect for human dignity. President Mr Pranab Mukherjee will present National Awards to meritorious teachers at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi today.All India Radio, Delhi will broadcast live the award presenteation ceremony from 12.25 PM. It will be available on multi-channel AIR Stations.
