In Andhra Pradesh, protest demonstrations have been launched across the state in view of the bandh call given by Telugu Desam Party against the arrest of its President Chandrababu Naidu. The bandh is underway peacefully so far. Dharna and Rasta Roko are being held across the state. The left parties, CPI and CPM have also extended support to the bandh. Earlier, the police have taken Mr Naidu, who launched indefinite hunger strike last Friday, into custody and forcibly admitted him to Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad. Police took this step following deterioration in his health condition. However, Mr Naidu is continuing hunger-strike in the hospital by refusing medical tests. Mr Naidu has been demanding higher compensation to farmers who suffered losses due to recent heavy rains. Meanwhile, a case under section 309 of Indian penal code has been registered against Mr Naidu while cases were also registered against other TDP leaders under 353 of IPC. Meanwhile, TDP cadre has launched protest demonstrations across the state. The services of the Road Transport Corporation have been affected at several places posing inconvenience to commuters. Educational institutions have been closed at many places. Few Universities including Sri Venkateswara University and Nagarjuna University have postponed examinations.
