Tax dept seizes undisclosed income worth Rs 1,474 crore in last 2 years

The Income Tax Department has seized undisclosed assests worth Rs 1,474 crore during raids conducted against 990 groups of assessees during the last two years. <br/><br/>In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said, these assesses have admitted undisclosed income of 21 thousand 354 crore rupees.<br/><br/> He said in addition, 22 thousand 475 crore rupees was also detected during various surveys conducted during that period. He said, there has been significant rise in criminal prosecutions filed by the Department. <br/><br/>He however informed the House there is no official estimate of the amount of black money stashed away abroad.The Finance Minister said, the government had commissioned a study on estimation of unaccounted income and wealth inside and outside country through various institutes.He informed, the government has received the reports in this regard and it is under examination. He said, the government has taken several steps to effectively tackle the issue of black money.<br/><br/>The measures include policy level initiatives, effective enforcement action and putting in robust legislative and administrative frameworks.
