Tax collection grows by 3%

The government today said the country has registered an average three per cent growth rate in the tax collection. Giving this information in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today, the Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee said that a total of Rs. 6,27,250 crore rupees has been collected under direct and indirect taxes during 2009-10. Though, no new areas has been brought under Direct Tax net since 2007, the collection of direct tax has increased and now touched the three lakh thirty seven thousand nine hundred and eighty two crore rupees level in 2009-10. The Minister said that the Tax–GDP ratio was 10.07 per cent in 2009-10 while the GDP growth rate was recorded 11.78 percent during the same period.
