Tax collection figures up to January this year show a consistent trend of healthy growth. The Net Indirect tax grew at the rate of 16.9 percent in January 2017 compared to corresponding month last year.Growth rate in net collections for Customs was 10.1 percent, Central Excise 26.3 percent and Service Tax 9.4 percent upto 31st of January this year.Finance Ministry said, net direct tax collections up to January this year was 5.82 lakh crore rupees which is 10.79 percent more than the net collections for the corresponding period last year. This collection is 68.7 percent of the total budget estimates of direct taxes for the current fiscal.
