Tata Motors April sales up 52 pc

Automaker Tata Motors has reported a 52.47 pc increase in sales in April to 57,202 units compared to the same month last year, the company sold 37,518 units in April, 2009.The homegrown firm''s passenger vehicles sales in the domestic market stood at 23,102 units in April against 13,410 units in the same month last year, a jump of 72.27 percent, the company said in a statement on Saturday.Exports in April grew by over two-fold at 3,137 units compared to 1,261 units in the same month last year, it added.Sales of ''Indica'' rose 5 percent to 9,036 units over April, 2009, Tata Motors said.''Indigo'' family recorded sales of 7,201 units, a rise of 180 percent over the same month last year.''Sumo'' and ''Safari'' accounted for sales of 3,340 units, an increase of 51 percent compared to the same month last year.In the commercial vehicles segment, domestic sales were at 30,963 units in April compared with 22,847 units in the same month last year, up 35.52 percent.Light commercial vehicles sales during the month were at 17,806 units, a growth of 20 percent over last year, while medium and heavy commercial vehicle sales stood at 13,157 units, a growth of 63 percent compared with April, 2009.
