Government will set up a task force to crack down on coal Mafia operating in the country. The move comes after the Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal pledged to wipe off coal pilferage by the Mafia. Official sources say, Director Vigilance of the Coal Ministry will be the nodal officer for the task force. According to reports every year almost 5 to 6 million tones of coal is pilfered by the Mafia. Our Correspondent says, cases of illegal mining are detected predominantly in the Eastern region, mainly in the states of Jharkhand and West Bengal.
